WordleUsing Wordle is easy, yet a little frustrating. In order to use Wordle, you will need to go to www.wordle.net and download the desktop application. You will then need to upload, copy, and or type in your corpus of data. Once you have uploaded your information your text will be sorted by the frequency in which the word appears. As you can see from the example above film, tourism/tourist, destination, and Cephalonia are the words that appeared the most from the article Film tourism and destination marketing: The case of Captain Corelli’s Mandolin. Wordle is easy to use and easy to set up, however I have come to find that copying and pasting from a PDF dosent come across to Wordle, and you may have to manually type in what you would like Wordle to process. I had to type in part of my article, and it was very laborious. I found that other tools like Voyant allow you to upload PDF's directly and then the program will convert your text into a word cloud, bar graphs and other data sources. Overall, Wordle is a powerful tool that allows you to see the frequency of words used in your data set and that is important to determine the majority of words used in your articles, and to show the frequency of words used by the author. VoyantVoyant is text analysis software that allows the use to create: word frequency lists, frequency distribution plots, and displays. To start Voyant simply go to https://voyant-tools.org/ paste your text and click reveal. That information will be displayed as it did above. The thing I like about Voyant is that Voyant allows the user to upload whole text from PDF, then process the information and create the data set you need, and Voyant is specifically designed for digitan humanists. It also allows you to have your data in multiple displays. Line charts, Word clouds, frequency tables, and excel documents. Voyant is a digital humanists dream. AntConcAntConc is a system that shows the text of individual files and it allows you to investigate the results generated in
other tools of AntConc in greater detail. In order to use AntConc go to https://www.laurenceanthony.net/software/antconc/ and download AntConc, then upload your files and AntConc will display your articles in a frequency table by color. My problem with AntConc is that AntConc is free but the extensions that AntConc talks about are in-accessible unless you pay for them. One of the other problems I have with AntConc is that it requires 2 or more pieces of information to be uploaded into it; AntConc will not analyze once file, it requires two of them, so the data table above shows two articles, Film tourism and destination marketing: The case of Captain Corelli’s Mandolin & The Brutal Reality of Captain Corellis Mandolin. as you can see above the frequency table is color coded. What I like about AntConc is that it allows you to dig deeply into textual analysis of your documents, and creates tables that allow you to see how many times a word is used and exactly where it is relative to other articles.
